I'm about to hit the road again. I can't wait. Maybe it's because I didn't learn how to drive until I was 25, but I still absolutely love being in a car. Yes, even in L.A. traffic. I think road trips are awesome and I don't get to do enough of them, so the opportunity to drive to Arizona is so beyond perfect for me right now that I'm beside myself with glee. And to celebrate the occasion, I took great pains to create a never-ending playlist on my iPod to ensure I have non-stop music the whole trip through. I knew I had eclectic taste in music, but from the looks of this playlist my iPod is owned by someone with multiple personality disorder. A smattering of the tunes that will be played along my journey:
Monkey Business - Skid Row. My excuse for including this is because on the last trip, I already listened to Youth Gone Wild. And I can't find I Remember You. So, Monkey Business it is.
Waterloo - Abba. Do I really have to explain, outside of saying it's a classic of our times?
Tired of Being Alone - Al Green. Strangely, I find this to be a happy song rather than a depressive one. I like breaking up the hyper pop and hair metal with something a little more... groovy.
Iesha - Another Bad Creation. Come on. Don't tell me you didn't love this in the early 90s.
Hey Ladies - Beastie Boys. Paul's Boutique is probably my favorite Beasties album, but this is by far my favorite Beasties song. Yes, even over and above classics like "Shake Your Rump" and their newer stuff.
I Love Myself Today - Bif Naked. Word.
Flesh For Fantasy - Billy Idol. There's something both hilariously 80s, and yet totally hot, about this song. I can't decide which side of the fence I fall on.
Rapture - Blondie. I usually go for "Call Me," "Maria" or "Heart of Glass," but I decided to mix it up a bit.
One Night love Affair - Bryan Adams. Because it reminds me of being a kid in Canada and thinking, "I've gotta get the hell out of here!" (I kid, Canucks. You know it's not like that anymore.)
Ever Fallen In Love? - The Buzzcocks. Well, have you?
Block Rockin' Beats - Chemical Brothers. This one reminds me of Toronto, for some reason. I think because I was forced to listen to this when they did Electric Circus at Much nearly every Friday night.
Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves - Cher. Is it just me, or does she sound totally different in the old days compared to now? Is that because of age and surgery, or more sophisticated recording technology?
Fame - David Bowie. I jumped on the Bowie bandwagon way late, as I often do with any bandwagon. I wait until the wheels have fallen off before saying, "Hey, I like this!" So hey, I like this. But I don't think his wheels have fallen off just yet.
I Feel You - Depeche Mode. HOT!
Still D.R.E - Dr. Dre. Love his voice.
I've Got A Crush On You - Ella Fitzgerald. Shar is to blame for this one. She turned me on to this, Frank, Dean and all those peeps (all of whom are represented on this list.)
My Hero - Foo Fighters. I once got to see them when Much Music was doing their version of Unplugged, except it wasn't unplugged. Anyway, they were awesome live.
Strict Machine - Goldfrapp. ALSO HOT!
Cold Hard Bitch - Jet. This song makes me want to speed. Thank goodness for my... law abiding citizen-ness! Yeah, that's it.
Rumors - Lindsay Lohan. Don't judge me. It's a good pop song! Sandra, back me up!
I'll Stop The World And Melt With You - Modern English. Valley Girl represent!
Time is Running Out - Muse. Normally I love "Hysteria" to the ends of the earth, but I need to give it a break due to wearing it out.
Step by Step - New Kids on the Block. Screw "Summertime." And no, I don't have tickets to the show. I have my priorities in check (see: Sticky & Sweet Tour, 2008.)
U Got The Look - Prince. My second favorite Prince song. B Sides is the best disc ever.
Lucky - Radiohead. Thom's voice is haunting at the best of times, but in this song he's just balls-out incredible. Everything about this song gives me the chills (in a good way.)
Tonight, Tonight - Smashing Pumpkins. For some reason I feel the best way to describe this song is "gorgeous." It just makes me feel happy.
Come Sail Away - Styx. Oh yes, we're going there.
Cherry Pie - Warrant. Yes, we're going there, too.
Everything She Wants - Wham. I'm bummed that I missed out on George when he went on tour, but he probably wouldn't have done this song anyway.
Blue Orchid - White Stripes. Another speeding song.
And that's just the tip of the iceberg. The total list is 340 songs long, making up 22.5 hours of play. I'll only have a total of 12 hours on the road going there and back. I either need to pare down, or I need to take another road trip...
