"As a matter of fact, I was at the beach, uh, snorkeling with the little fishies."

Yesterday could not have been more perfect if it tried. After a lovely breakfast by the ocean, I was whisked away to a dock where I boarded a boat, slipped on some flippers and a mask, and went snorkeling for the first time in my life. I saw spiny sea urchins, coral and sea grass, swam through schools of fish, checked out a spotted eel and chased after a sea turtle. It was so peaceful... and now I've got a taste for diving. I'm making arrangements to come back in the spring and get certified so I can go to The Wall, a spot way out in the middle of the ocean with incredible sea life that's only viewable if you're scubaing. In eight months, that'll be what I'm doing.

As if that weren't enough, we followed that up with a nighttime swim in the bioluminescent bay. There are these little organisms that are part plant and part animal, and during the day they feed at the bottom of the bay - they're not a fan of light. But at night if there's no mood, they glide up to the top. When you first get there it doesn't seem like anything special, and that's because you have to stir things up so the organisms think they're in danger. I watched as our guide slowly climbed in the water off the back of our boat, and as he swam, it looked like he was glowing. We all dived in and made bio bay angels, put on snorkeling masks and looked at our hands and feet moving under water... it's really hard to explain how amazing it is without sounding cheesy, but it's like swimming in stars. It's incredible.

And now it's time to come home. I'm not sad about this in the least - the trip was perfect, and exactly what I needed... plus, I'll be back this direction again in under a week. But for now the van to take us to lumnch awaits... so I'd better get going.

More soon.
